Niels Larsen Stevns created this biblical motif on paper using graphite. At first glance, the drawing appears to be a jumble of lines. Yet, upon closer inspection, distinct figures begin to emerge, each rendered with a sense of dynamism. The composition is divided into two registers, each presenting a fragment of a biblical narrative. Note how the artist uses rapid, gestural lines to capture the figures in motion, as if freezing a fleeting moment in time. There’s a deliberate lack of detail, pushing the essence of form and movement to the forefront. This abstraction invites us to engage actively with the artwork, piecing together the narrative through the artist's formal choices. The drawing challenges conventional notions of representation by emphasizing the process of creation over the final product. It invites us to appreciate the raw energy and creative impulse behind the work.
