Lala Eve Rivol made this untitled print which she called 'Petroglyph' using a few colours over a grid format. Looking at this, I see a dance between intention and accident. It's that beautiful messiness that I find so appealing. The texture of the paper peeks through, giving it a raw, earthy feel. The artist uses a simple colour palette. Look at the main area of the print, where Rivol draws a figure, or maybe it's a landscape, with an intuitive, almost childlike hand. See how the lines are uneven, a bit shaky? It's like she's feeling her way through the image, discovering it as she goes. The red ink bleeds slightly into the paper, adding to the sense of immediacy and vulnerability. For me, Rivol's work is a reminder that art doesn't always have to be polished and perfect. Like Agnes Martin, she shows us how imperfection can be a source of beauty and truth.
