Editor: So this is "In the Wood near Lerici" by John Downman. It's a hazy, almost dreamlike wash drawing. How do you wander through the artist's eyes here? Curator: Ah, yes, the forest's breath on paper! To me, it feels less like a literal place and more like a memory. Downman's capturing the essence of the woods, the feeling of being enveloped by nature, not just its appearance. It's all very evocative. Doesn’t the monochrome palette almost feel like you're seeing it in hindsight, filtered through time? Editor: That's a great point! It really does feel like a memory. I hadn’t thought about it that way. Curator: The beauty is, isn't it, that Downman invites us to bring our own memories, our own experiences of the woods, into the picture. Editor: Absolutely! It’s become more personal now. Thanks!
