Rudy Pozzatti made this print, Trees in Autumn Light, in 1959. I can imagine the artist deeply considering the textures of bark and leaf, of dappled light and tangled branch. You can almost feel the scratch of the plate as the artist created this scene, trying to capture the feel of this place. It seems to have been created through small, controlled marks. Look how the density of the marks describes the volume of the trees and the light peeking through the branches. I wonder if the artist was thinking about earlier landscape artists like the Impressionists who were also trying to capture the fleeting effects of light and atmosphere. This print, though, feels more intimate and personal. It’s as if the artist is inviting us to step into their own experience of being in nature, offering us a glimpse into a specific moment.
