Curator: Esq Tom Phillips, born in 1937, created this piece, part of his "Canto XVI" series. It’s an etching, and it feels so ethereal. Editor: The tonal range is certainly subtle, almost monochromatic. There’s a complex interplay of geometric forms overlaid with intricate, repetitive patterns. It's quite hypnotic. Curator: I agree! It feels like looking at the ocean… the patterns remind me of waves, and then you see those little words floating above, like thoughts. Editor: Semiotically, the text acts as an anchor, providing narrative context to the abstract shapes. The circles themselves might represent cycles or even containment. Curator: Maybe… or it’s just how his mind sees the world. A beautiful, layered mystery. Editor: Indeed, a fascinating intersection of text and form, leaving much open to interpretation. Curator: Leaving us something to keep thinking about long after we walk away.
