Sol LeWitt made this work, Bands of Lines One Inch Wide in Four Directions in Black and Gray, with ink on paper. What I love about this piece is how LeWitt takes a simple idea and runs with it. It's all about the process, right? The rules are set, and then it's about executing them with precision. You can almost feel him thinking, "What happens if I just keep going?" The gray and black create a kind of quiet rhythm, a visual hum that’s so controlled, so deliberate, it's almost meditative. Look at how each section has a different orientation. Vertical, horizontal, diagonal... it's like a visual exercise in perspective. In a way, LeWitt reminds me of Agnes Martin. Same sense of simplicity and repetition, but with a totally different vibe. It's like they're both asking, "How little can I do to make something that still resonates?" Both artists are saying something about art as a conversation, ideas bouncing off each other across time. And ultimately, it’s not about having the "right" answer, but about embracing the questions.
