This fashion plate, ‘Très Parisien, 1926, No. 1, Pl. 16: Création PHILIPPE et GASTON - SAN-FRANCISCO’, was made by G-P. Joumard, and it's a slice of Parisian style, capturing the zeitgeist with a few deft strokes. Look at the way Joumard renders those outfits! You get the feeling that the designs evolve through the making process. There is an energy here that reflects an understanding of artmaking as a continuous journey. And what about the textures, eh? You can almost feel the plush of the fur trim on the coat. The color palette sings a tune of the times – those soft blues, creams, and blacks mixing with the playful geometry of the Art Deco period. It’s all there, laid down with a light touch, as if it’s about to float right off the page. It reminds me a little bit of Erté, that other master of the fashion plate, but Joumard brings a certain groundedness. It’s a conversation between artists, a dance of ideas across time. And, like all good art, it leaves plenty of room for us to bring our own interpretations.
