Dan Flavin made this monument to Tatlin using fluorescent lights, assembled with a sculptor's eye and a painter's sense of color. The cool white glow isn't just illumination; it’s a medium, a substance. Each tube is a stroke, a line defining form, yet the form itself is ethereal. Notice how the light spills onto the wall, blurring the edges of the monument, making it less about the object and more about the space it inhabits. The light pools on the floor like an offering, creating a dialogue between the sculpture and its environment. It reminds me of Josef Albers' Homage to the Square, in that both artists are working with simple geometric forms to explore the nuances of color and light. It's not just about what you see, but how you see it.
