This pair of six-panel folding screens, titled *Rough Waves*, was created by Ogata Kōrin (1658-1716) between 1694-1719 and is currently housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. These screens are a stunning example of the Rinpa school, a style known for its emphasis on decorative motifs and bold color palettes, and are considered one of Kōrin's most iconic works. With dynamic strokes of ink and vibrant green pigment, Kōrin captures the raw power and movement of crashing waves, filling the screens with an energy that seems to leap off the surface. Kōrin's *Rough Waves* is a testament to the captivating beauty and elegance that can be found in the natural world.
