Shozo Shimamoto made this painting called 'Cashmere 01 a Londra' with what looks like fairly diluted paint in a limited palette of creams, blues and reds. I can imagine Shozo standing over a canvas thinking about Pollock’s action paintings, but wanting to create something light and airy. The paint is super thin, almost like watercolor, and the marks are not violent but gentle, more like sprinkles or whispers. It's like he’s trying to capture the feeling of a spring breeze. The way he’s applied the paint, splattering and dripping it onto the canvas, makes me think about the physicality of painting. There’s a real sense of movement and energy in those marks, but it's really controlled. He probably knew exactly where each drop would land. And in that little signature you feel the artist's hand. Painters have always borrowed from each other, playing with ideas and pushing the boundaries of what painting can be. Shozo's work is a cool reminder that painting is always alive, always changing.
