Winter garden 4 2020

Pavlo Makov made *Winter garden 4* as an ink work on paper. I’m really drawn to the delicate lines connecting the potted plants, like neurons firing in a hidden network. It feels as if the birds in flight have set up an aerial mapping of the artist’s interior world. Each plant almost like a memory, a feeling, or an idea. I like to imagine Makov sitting with these delicate tools, carefully constructing this world. Maybe there's a sense of fragility, capturing something that feels very intimate and personal. You know, as artists, we’re always in dialogue with each other, building on what came before and responding to the present. This piece feels part of that conversation. Painting, or drawing in this case, is like writing in a way. We keep a record of our lives, our feelings, our shifting ideas of the world around us. There's no fixed meaning, only the ongoing process of trying to make sense of it all.
