Pavlo Makov’s ‘Winter Garden 2’ sprouts on paper as if grown with ink and imagination. Can you see how the artist carefully cultivated a garden of potted plants, each connected by lines like a family tree? There’s something touchingly human about the care put into each little botanical portrait. I imagine Makov, in his studio, coaxing these delicate lines into existence, probably pondering the relationship between nature and architecture, individual growth and collective structures. The building at the bottom, could that be a communal garden, a shared space from which all this life springs? It reminds me of other artists like Ian Hamilton Finlay, who also brought a gardener’s sensibility to their work, turning landscape into art and philosophy. Maybe artists are gardeners of a kind, planting ideas and watching what grows. It’s not about control, but about careful attention, letting things emerge, and seeing what connections take root.
