Márta Aczél made this photograph, 'Untitled (Bowl),' and really, the title says it all. I love the way the light has been captured here, almost as if the shadows were more present than the object itself. Aczél’s photograph really embraces the physicality of light. The geometric shadows create a textured surface that is really playful. It reminds me a bit of weaving. What’s interesting is how the grid of the bowl turns into this beautiful, almost polka-dot pattern in the shadow, which almost steals the show. Aczél reminds me a bit of Bauhaus artists, who also were exploring the interplay of form and function, light and shadow. Ultimately, Aczél’s ‘Untitled (Bowl)’ is a reminder that art is an ongoing conversation and that there’s always room for multiple interpretations.
