We can analyze the artist’s changes, reworkings, and the very structure supporting the image. How does this shift our understanding of the "Genre Scene" itself, beyond subject matter, toward examining the labour and material involved? Editor: That’s a great point. It makes me think about the unseen effort in creating even what appears to be a simple genre scene. Thank you for this new perspective.
