Paul Guiragossian made "Dans la Nuit or Nostalgie" with paint, creating a series of figures that are as much about color and texture as they are about form. The way he’s applied the paint—those visible, energetic brushstrokes—tells you so much about his process. Up close, you can see how the paint is both thick and thin, transparent and opaque. This tension makes the figures seem to emerge from the background, almost like memories or dreams. Look at the ochre and yellow figures in the middle; the surface is built up with layers, giving them a real presence. Guiragossian reminds me of Alberto Giacometti, both artists use their materials to express the human condition in an abstract way. Art is an ongoing conversation, a way of seeing and feeling that’s always evolving.
