Michel Blazy made this piece called Barbacaen. There's such a sense of process at play, almost as if we're looking at something caught midway between decay and growth. The texture is everything here: that grainy, crumbly surface surrounding the darker form. You can almost feel the earthiness of the material, whatever it is. Then, in the center, these delicate, branching lines appear, like veins or roots. It’s a beautiful contrast, the soft against the rough. It’s as if Blazy is letting the material take the lead, following its own logic rather than imposing something artificial. It reminds me a little of Andy Goldsworthy's ephemeral sculptures, the way he lets nature dictate the terms of the artwork. Ultimately, it's a celebration of the unpredictable, the messy, and the beautiful ways things change over time.
