This bronze medal, created in 1565 by the Italian artist Pastorino de Pastorini, depicts Barbara d’Este of Austria in profile. The medal is small in size, measuring just 2 1/2 inches in diameter. It is a detailed portrait, showing Barbara in elaborate attire, including a richly decorated headdress and a jeweled collar. The medal, now in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, is a fine example of Renaissance-era portraiture.
