J.A. Jerichau (II)’s ‘Blomsterskitser’ is a botanical study in ink, splayed across the page like a series of thoughts or observations jotted down in real time. I can imagine the artist outside, quickly trying to capture each flower before the light changed. There’s a lightness to the marks, as though the pen barely touched the paper, but it is enough to suggest the essence of the flowers - their budding heads, drooping petals, and curling stems. When you try to draw flowers, it's interesting how you see them as being so animated. I love how different each sketch is, some bolder and more defined, others almost disappearing into the page. There is a conversation between the real and the imagined, between observation and interpretation. It reminds me that art is not about capturing something perfectly, but about how we see and feel it. The artist and the viewer are in conversation with each other.
