This is a postcard sent to Philip Zilcken, its surface a landscape of overlapping signs and textual layers. The composition is dominated by the geometric forms of stamps and circular cancellations. Note the contrast between the crisp, defined edges of the postage and the more fluid, cursive script that meanders across the card. These graphic elements create a dialogue between public, standardized communication and personal expression. Each stamp represents an official semiotic system, a currency of meaning recognized within the postal service. The placement of these elements, seemingly random, establishes a visual rhythm. Pica transforms a mundane object into a complex field of visual information. The palimpsest of marks suggests a network of relationships between sender, recipient, and the space between them. This little artwork prompts us to consider how everyday objects encode history, memory, and the constant exchange of signs that shape our understanding of the world.
