This small, round bronze coin, known as a jeton, was minted in 1527 by an anonymous artist to commemorate the birth of Philip, son of Charles V, The jeton depicts a double-headed eagle on one side and a shield flanked by roses on the other, a symbol of the Habsburg family. The coin was commissioned by Margaret of Austria, the regent of the Netherlands, and is a testament to the importance of commemorating royal births and Habsburg power. This object, now housed in the Rijksmuseum, is a historical artifact that offers insights into the symbolism and political climate of the early 16th century.
