Oud schaapharder Possibly 1874 - 1875

Johannes Tavenraat’s *Oud Schaapherder* (Old Shepherd) is a pen and ink sketch of a shepherd from the 19th century. The sketch depicts a shepherd wearing a wide-brimmed hat with his head turned in profile. Tavenraat’s signature, “Oud Schaapherder”, is inscribed on the lower right corner of the sketch. This artwork, now in the collection of the Rijksmuseum, exemplifies Tavenraat’s interest in capturing the essence of common people.
