This ceremonial scarf, or *bufando* or *ufanta*, was woven by the Aymara people, an indigenous group from the Andes region of South America. Dating back to the 19th century, it exemplifies their intricate weaving techniques, featuring a brown base with white stripes and an elaborate lace trim. The scarf's dimensions, measuring 251.5 × 65.7 cm, suggest its use as a decorative and possibly symbolic garment in traditional Aymara ceremonies. The Art Institute of Chicago houses this important example of Andean textile artistry.
