This vase was created in Loosdrecht, and it presents us with the serene image of a duck amidst reeds, its gentle presence evoking the tranquility of nature. The duck, a symbol steeped in layers of meaning, appears across cultures and eras, often associated with adaptability, resourcefulness, and emotional comfort. From ancient Egyptian art, where waterfowl represented aspects of the soul's journey, to its appearance in various mythologies as a messenger between worlds, the duck carries a rich symbolic weight. Observe how the duck, seemingly at peace in its watery habitat, mirrors our own subconscious desires for a return to simpler, more instinctual states of being. The enduring image of the duck invites us to reflect on how symbols are not static, but rather evolve, adapt, and resurface, resonating with different cultures and generations in an ongoing dance of meaning.

Two of the vases in this group bear the mark of the Porceleinfabriek aan den Amstel, the successor of the Loosdrecht porcelain factory. Just as the factory at Loosdrecht had earlier bought up the stock and moulds of its predecessor in Weesp, so did the factory in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel take over the inventory of Loosdrecht.
