This vase was made in Loosdrecht using porcelain, a material renowned for its delicate, translucent qualities. The intricate latticework on the lid and the delicate handles of the vase demonstrate the artist's mastery of this demanding medium. Porcelain is created from a fine clay mixture fired at high temperatures. Its smooth, white surface is perfect for painting. Here, we see a hand-painted scene of ducks in a natural setting, bringing a touch of nature to this refined object. The vase is also adorned with gilded accents, adding a luxurious touch. Notice the amount of work involved in its production, from shaping and firing the porcelain to the meticulous painting and gilding. This vase is a testament to the skills and traditions passed down through generations of ceramic artists, raising questions about the nature of labor involved in the creation of luxury goods. It challenges the traditional divide between fine art and craft.

Two of the vases in this group bear the mark of the Porceleinfabriek aan den Amstel, the successor of the Loosdrecht porcelain factory. Just as the factory at Loosdrecht had earlier bought up the stock and moulds of its predecessor in Weesp, so did the factory in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel take over the inventory of Loosdrecht.
