Blinky Palermo made this gray disc out of paint at some point in his short life. It’s got this wobbly, hand-made quality that I really dig. I love how the color sits so still, a kind of meditative gray that seems to absorb all the light around it. If you look closely, the surface texture suggests the paint was applied in layers, almost like he was building up a skin. It’s not just about the color; it’s about the physicality of the paint itself, the way it catches the light, the subtle variations in tone. It’s like a quiet conversation between the artist and the material. Palermo’s work has always reminded me a little of Agnes Martin's, especially in its use of reductive forms and subtle color. But where Martin aims for a kind of transcendental purity, Palermo seems more interested in the messy, imperfect reality of making art. Both artists explore the power of simplicity, reminding us that sometimes, less really is more.
