This two-fold screen was made by Carlo Bugatti, its design presents strong visual symbols, most notably the prominent use of circles. At the top, a large, golden orb dominates the composition, while smaller circular motifs adorn the base. Throughout history, the circle has represented wholeness, the infinite, and cosmic unity, dating back to ancient sun worship. The sun, often depicted as a radiant circle, symbolizes life, energy, and rebirth. Consider the recurrence of circular mandalas in Eastern religious art, each layer meticulously crafted to aid in meditation and spiritual focus. Here, the nested circles invite the eye inward, drawing the viewer into a contemplative state, perhaps echoing a subconscious desire for completeness or enlightenment. This echoes the cyclical nature of existence itself, a reminder of the eternal return, the ouroboros. The birds represent the soul's journey, a longing for freedom, an ancient symbol.
