This bronze medal was created by Godefroid Devreese to commemorate the World Exhibition in Brussels in 1910. Looking at this medal, I imagine Devreese working away, thinking about progress, royalty, and Belgium itself. The medal feels optimistic with its classical figures in flowing gowns. On one side, a horseman trumpets the occasion and on the other a regal woman hands a wreath to a kneeling figure. It’s like history painting, but in miniature. The detail is amazing; you can even see the individual hairs in the horse’s tail. For me, art isn’t just about aesthetics, it's about communication. Artists are in constant dialogue, across time, inspiring each other's creativity. It's a form of embodied expression that embraces ambiguity, allowing for multiple readings.
