This abstract work by Sorin Dumitrescu presents a geometric composition dominated by a bisected circle, divided into quadrants containing stylized crosses and linear arrangements. The circle is an archetype, an ancient symbol of wholeness, of the self, of cosmic unity. Its division into sections, marked by crosses, echoes cosmological diagrams found across cultures, from alchemical drawings to mandalas. The cross itself, pre-dating Christianity, is a universal symbol, representing the intersection of the spiritual and material worlds. These symbols are not static; they morph across time. The cross, once a pagan symbol, was reborn through Christian suffering, eventually to become a symbol of salvation. Dumitrescu’s work seems to tap into this deep well of collective memory, evoking a sense of the eternal, the cyclical nature of existence.
