In "Poetry Page" Reva Urban made a kind of quiet mark-making, more like atmospheric writing, with a single color of ink, a dark grey. I imagine her hunched over a piece of paper, almost like she’s conducting a séance. You can feel the artist's presence in the controlled, yet free-flowing marks. The ink bleeds ever so slightly into the fibers of the paper, creating a halo effect. I can see her hand moving across the page, almost in a trance, letting the words guide her. What was she thinking when she made this? Was she trying to channel some kind of cosmic energy? Or was she simply trying to make sense of her own thoughts and feelings through the act of writing? I love how she seems to be in conversation with other word-based artists like Cy Twombly, or even Agnes Martin. The way the words dance on the page, creating a kind of visual poetry. In the end, art embraces these uncertainties and ambiguities, allowing for multiple interpretations and meanings.
