Nemanja Vučković’s large painting ‘Torrent’ is an immersive world of blues and greens, a space you could almost dive into. I can imagine Vučković working on this canvas, layering washes of thin paint, letting it drip and run, almost like he's coaxing the image into existence. That spattering of yellow, like a burst of light or pollen, feels so deliberate against the cool blues. Maybe he was thinking about nature, the way light filters through water or the sudden splash of color in a landscape. The way the paint pools and streaks, it's like he's capturing a fleeting moment, an atmosphere. I always wonder, what is the artist trying to capture or conjure? It reminds me of those older landscape painters who were trying to capture the sublime, the overwhelming power of nature. I feel that Vučković, and painters like him, are in a continuous dialogue with them, taking the baton and running with it. Each artist responding to the past, while pushing painting forward.
