Nemanja Vučković made this painting, “Mislead”, using broad strokes and splatters of colour that suggest a kind of energetic spontaneity. I love how the paint is both thin and thick, transparent and opaque, all at the same time, like a dance between control and letting go. See how the blues and reds collide in the lower half of the canvas? There's this sense of depth, almost like looking into a stormy sea or a vibrant, overgrown garden. And then, those drips at the top! They give the painting a sense of movement, as if the colours are still in the process of finding their place, it is like looking at a very colourful waterfall. This reminds me of Helen Frankenthaler's soak-stain technique, where she poured thinned paint onto unprimed canvas, allowing the colours to merge and blend in unpredictable ways. With Vučković the painting is a physical record of an action, a performance captured in paint.
