These blob-like forms, known as *cluster*, were created by Carsten Nicolai, born in 1965. Nicolai conjures these strange metallic forms through a process that’s both calculated and intuitive. The surfaces ripple and gleam, catching light like mercury or some alien mineral. You almost want to reach out and touch them, to feel the weight and texture of these otherworldly objects. Look closely, and you’ll notice how the reflections play across the surfaces. Each bump and divot creates its own little world of light and shadow. It’s as if the artist is inviting us to explore the infinite possibilities of form and material. These forms remind me of Yves Tanguy's biomorphic surrealist paintings, but in three dimensions, of course. It leaves you wondering, what other dimensions are out there?
