James Rosenquist's *Silo*, is an artwork that combines painting and construction. There is so much going on here, with the smooth gradients in the blue background and the clashing imagery that Rosenquist is known for. The collage is a construction of both painting and sculpture, with the 'T' jutting out towards the viewer. I can imagine Rosenquist in his studio, wrestling with the canvas, trying to make sense of all the images in his mind. He was working at a time when so much was happening culturally, politically, and socially. It makes sense that he had to use a lot of different images to try and capture this moment. There are many different approaches to painting, and Rosenquist shows us how to combine techniques to express the complexities of modern life. Artists are constantly in conversation with one another, building on the ideas and techniques of those who came before them.
