"Excerpts from The Tale of Genji" is a two-leaf handscroll by the Japanese calligrapher Ono no Ozū, also known as Ono no Tsū, created between 1600 and 1631. The scroll features elegant calligraphy in black ink on a light blue background, with gold accents. It is an excerpt from the famous Japanese novel, "The Tale of Genji", and is a prime example of Ono no Ozū's mastery of calligraphy. This scroll is currently housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The delicate brushstrokes and the use of gold leaf create a sense of beauty and refinement, typical of the Japanese artistic traditions of the Edo period.
