Jens Lund carved this reclining woman out of stone, though we don't know exactly when. There's a real stillness to this piece. You can almost hear the gentle breaths of this woman as she’s sleeping. Imagine Lund chipping away, day after day, at this hard, cold rock, until it slowly gives way to this soft, languid form. It makes me think about the labor and the love that goes into making something like this. It's like a dance between the artist and the stone – a conversation where each informs the other. You can see the trace of the artist’s hand in the rough texture of the stone. It reminds me of the work of other sculptors like Henry Moore, who also found beauty in the curves and contours of the human body. It's like artists are always in conversation with each other, across time and space, inspiring each other to see the world in new ways.
