This is Svend Rathsack’s "Reclining Female Nude", a sculpture made in, well, we don't actually know when. The surface looks roughly hewn. I imagine the artist working directly with the stone, maybe using a chisel, being guided by the material, letting the form emerge through a process of slow revelation. The texture is tactile, almost begging to be touched. The muted palette enhances the sense of timelessness. Look at the way the figure reclines, one arm supporting her weight, her gaze turned to the side. There’s a sense of vulnerability, but also strength, in her posture. What I love most is the lack of smooth finishing. It’s like Rathsack wanted to remind us that art isn’t about perfection, but about embracing the raw, imperfect beauty of the world. It feels like a conversation with Rodin, maybe even echoes of classical sculpture, but with a modern sensibility. Art, like life, is an ongoing dialogue, a constant process of questioning and reinterpreting.
