This bracelet, made of gold, with its diamond-shaped links, was crafted by the Bijouteriën Drijfhout & Zoon factory. Can you imagine the skill it took to form each of these identical components, and then link them together, one by one? Each little diamond is like a tiny sculpture, catching the light and throwing it back. I can imagine the artisans in the factory, maybe a bit like a painter in their studio, working meticulously. They’re repeating a process, but also making subtle variations each time. How could they avoid that? It's interesting how a small detail can change the whole meaning. Maybe they weren't trying to avoid those variations, but embrace them? Like a painter playing with a series of similar shapes and colors, each slightly different, creating a sense of rhythm and movement. What do you think those factory workers would make of my paintings? Would they see a connection between their craft and my art? I hope so. I think we're all just trying to make sense of the world, one mark, one link, at a time.
