Ellsworth Kelly made this "Train Landscape" painting with, I think, a real sense of process. The way the colors are stacked makes me think of the feeling when you’re looking out the window, and the world is just passing by in bands of color. There’s something so direct and confident about how Kelly applies the paint. The colors are super flat and solid, but there's a real physical presence; you can almost feel the layers building up. Take the middle band of green – it’s not just green, it's *that* green, a kind of in-between, grassy green. How do you find that colour? It makes me think of those Ad Reinhardt paintings; so spare, but so full. Ultimately, I see Kelly’s work as an ongoing experiment. Each piece is just one step in a longer journey, a constant conversation with color and form. It’s never about finding the "right" answer, but about embracing the endless possibilities of art.
