Wang Xinfu's painting, titled 散点, invites us into a world built from the ground up with paint. The dabs and strokes are like thoughts accumulating, each one a decision, a feeling made visible. Look closely, and you can see how the paint is built up, layer upon layer, creating a topography of texture. There's a real physicality here, a sense that the paint itself is the subject, not just a means to depict something else. I'm drawn to how the whites and yellows catch the light, contrasted against the darker purples and browns, like little jolts of energy, zinging across the surface. Notice the way the artist uses these dark dots, like punctuation marks, to anchor the composition. It’s hard not to think of Van Gogh, particularly his later works, when looking at this piece. Both artists share this urgency, this need to translate emotion directly onto the canvas, letting the paint speak its own language. Like all good art, this painting embraces ambiguity, inviting us to bring our own experiences and interpretations to the table.
