This collection of black and white photographs, called Ambtsgebouwen Semarang, is mounted on card. Look at the way these images are presented, almost like they are pinned down. The arrangement, with its irregular spacing, makes me think of the creative process as a collection of moments, or snapshots, of a journey. These photographs, with their monochrome palette and candid compositions, have an immediacy that really speaks to me. Take the bottom left image, the lone figure standing in the landscape. The way the light catches the scene creates a sense of drama. It’s like a moment frozen in time, a snippet of someone's experience. The presentation reminds me of Gerhard Richter's Atlas, a collection of photographs and clippings. Both emphasize the value of art as a process of accumulating and arranging, where meaning emerges from the relationships between the elements. Ultimately, like any good artwork, it embraces ambiguity. It invites us to bring our own experiences and interpretations to the table.
