This is a page from the Wachenheimer family photo album, taken in Munich, in June 1931. It captures Isabel Wachenheimer looking at a photo album while sitting on her mother's lap. The sepia tones and grainy texture of the photographs add to the sense of looking back in time. I love the way the photos are arranged on the page, like a little grid of memories. The handwritten captions add such a personal touch, a direct line to the family. Each image, a small, frozen moment. You can almost feel the warmth of the sun, the weight of the album, and the closeness between mother and daughter. Looking at these collected moments, it reminds me how art, like life, is an ongoing conversation, a layering of experiences and interpretations. Much like the work of Gerhard Richter and his use of photographs, this family archive embraces ambiguity and invites multiple readings. It's about remembering, but also about the impossibility of truly capturing a moment.
