Victor Vasarely’s ‘Pulsar – Va’ is a real head-scratcher, playing tricks with your eyes and mind. Vasarely lays down these grey and black diamond shapes, neatly stacked in rows and then outlined in gold. The way the diamonds subtly shift in tone gives the illusion of a bulge, as if the whole grid is pushing outwards. It's almost like he’s playing with perception, using these simple geometric shapes to create a sense of depth and movement. Look closely, and you can see the precision in his work. Each diamond is carefully rendered, and the gold outline adds another layer of complexity. I think Agnes Martin would have liked this piece, especially the way Vasarely makes the whole surface seem to breathe and shimmer, pulling you in and pushing you away at the same time. It's a piece that reminds you art doesn't always have to be about what you see, but how you see it.
