Jacob ‘Jack’ crafted this stained-glass window titled ‘Harmony’ with meticulous detail. Born in 1893, Jack's life spanned periods of immense social change and conflict, which makes this artwork a poignant reflection on the themes of unity and peace. The window is full of symbols from Jewish culture: you can see the Star of David, Menorahs, and what appears to be the hand of God. All are set within this highly stylized design that draws on traditional representations. Yet there is something incredibly personal about its expression. The harmony Jack portrays isn't just about religious or cultural identity, it’s also about the harmony of the natural world. Look at the rainbow and flowing river at the bottom of the window. Through this piece, Jack seems to remind us that societal harmony extends to our relationship with nature, inviting us to consider a world where peace and balance prevail, and also to consider the personal sense of self.
