Tendres propos 

William Bouguereau made this oil on canvas painting, titled “Tendres Propos”, sometime during his career in nineteenth-century France. The painting depicts a woman in classical robes standing in a garden, embraced by two cherubic figures. The woman’s presence suggests a classical sculpture come to life and it invokes the aesthetics of ancient Greece and Rome, a common theme in the art of Bouguereau’s time. Bouguereau, a staunch academic painter, would have been wary of the new avant-garde movements, such as Impressionism.
