This is an untitled painting from Lee Krasner’s Little Image series, and I can imagine her standing at the canvas, brush loaded, ready to dive into this grid of color and form. Just look at that patchwork of squares, each one a tiny world of its own! There are these little gestural marks, a kind of personal script or alphabet, and a palette that’s both bold and restrained. I can see her layering the paint, building up texture, scraping back to reveal what’s underneath. It’s not just about applying color, it's about carving space and time into each square. I love how the brush dances and weaves like she is telling a story, one square at a time. This piece feels like a conversation with other painters like Agnes Martin and Paul Klee, and maybe even a bit of a nod to her husband, Jackson Pollock. Artists are always in dialogue with each other. They’re all part of this amazing, messy, beautiful conversation that we call art history.
