This fashion plate, “Très Parisien, 1923, No 11," is most likely a print. The artist is unknown, but I like to think of them as a ‘mark-maker of fashion’. The composition of the print, two figures, suggests that the process was intuitive. The surface of the image is flat and opaque, except for the text at the bottom of the image. The artist applies an even layer of color for each of the design components. The textures are defined with thin, hard edges, making it easy to see the different parts of the image. Look at the fur trim of the grey furs: short, deliberate strokes give the impression of soft, dense fur. The use of contour lines creates an almost tangible feeling. This print reminds me of a piece by Erte, especially in its dedication to luxury and a touch of fantasy. The artist leaves us space for our own interpretations of elegance, style, and the evolving world of fashion.
