Lala Eve Rivol made this drawing, Petroglyphs – Human Figures, with colored pencil. I love the way she layers simple shapes and marks. It’s like she’s building up a language, one line at a time. The colors here, mostly reds and blacks, feel earthy, raw. The way she uses the colored pencils, you can see the texture of the paper coming through, which adds to that feeling. Look closely at the central figure, like a shaman in a headdress. See how the lines are not perfectly neat? That slight wobble gives it a real human feel, like it’s breathing. Rivol's work reminds me of Forrest Bess, another artist obsessed with symbols and personal mythology. Both artists create their own visual worlds. It’s a reminder that art is a conversation, not a lecture.
