Daria Theodora's 'Melancholic Shut-In' seems to be an artwork made using ink and perhaps some watercolour. The lines are very definite, making the work pop out. Theodore must have drawn a line, considered it, and then decisively drawn another. I love the colour palette of red, black and turquoise. It feels so modern, even though it is a scene from another era. Look at the bird, how bold and black it is, like the artist is trying to find the beauty and darkness of life. What do you think the artist was feeling as she made this work? I love the woman too, so introspective. Artists are always finding something new from each other, right? You can feel other artists present in the marks of this work. It feels like a constant chat among artists, making each other better all the time. It is how we learn, isn't it?
