Daria Theodora made "I Can No Longer Recall Your Face" sometime in the late 20th century. The colour palette is gorgeous: shades of red, yellows, greens and blues combine to create a lush garden. I can imagine her working in the studio, layering the colors, scraping back, building up the surface through trial and error, following the painting where it leads. I can almost feel what it was like for her to create it – the joy of seeing the image slowly come into being, and the frustration of not getting it quite right. I notice the delicate hands, the intricate details of the flowers, the little objects that seem to float in space. It reminds me of a fever dream, or an enchanted forest. Her style has a wonderful sense of otherworldly mystery. The way that artists respond to each other’s work is truly amazing. It's like we’re all in this ongoing conversation, inspiring each other across time.
