Daria Theodora's, "I Can No Longer Recall Your Face" is a reverie rendered in watercolor and ink, a dance between memory and fantasy. Theodora uses a delicate touch, building up layers of translucent color, like emotions barely contained. Look at the woman’s dress, a cascade of blues and purples, thin white lines that suggest both form and ethereal light. The paint here is so thin, almost like a stain, which gives the fabric a weightless quality. Then your eye wanders upwards to the branches, the impasto effect of the red paint is so thick, that it looks like the leaves will burst through the picture plane. This is all contrasted with the swirling psychedelic patterns in the background. Theodora reminds me of Remedios Varo in her attention to detail, and her desire to depict an inner world. "I Can No Longer Recall Your Face", is a testament to the power of art to embrace ambiguity, and to transform the fleeting nature of memory into something tangible.
