Sol LeWitt made ‘Irregular Arcs, Bands, Loops’ without any date provided, and I like to imagine him playing with the idea of endlessness, the kind you find in math or music. It's all lines here, but each panel feels like a different mood. On the left, we've got these wavy lines, like looking at water or sound waves. Then, in the middle, there are straight lines, bold and vertical, standing tall like city buildings. And on the right, arcs create this funky rhythm. I feel like this is LeWitt letting loose, experimenting with space and color. I bet he listened to a lot of jazz! He's like a visual composer, arranging colours and shapes like notes on a page. He reminds me of other artists who were bending the rules, people like Josef Albers with his colour squares or Agnes Martin with her grids. We artists are always riffing off each other, you know, answering back and forth across time.
